In all my born days I have never seen such a blatant con job as this software masquerading as a useful product. A free (semi-functional) version came with my Plextor capture device so I assumed it was trustworthy and bought the upgrade.

First off, they (Plextor) tell you in the instructions that you need a separate sound and video card. I tried it with only the on-board video and sound and it seemed to work but not very well so I bought the additional cards for my system and problem one occurred: The preview window goes blank when you start recording when you have a PCIe video card. I read somewhere in a forum on video capturing that this software doesn't work with PCI Express cards!

The sample software I had at least had a way to stop recording. The "new and improved" version does not. Once you start recording there is no way to stop it. You can click on the Record button til you are blue in the face or your mouse breaks but it WILL NOT STOP. No Stop button, of course. You have to X out the entire program to get it to quit. Imagine!

I installed this thing and the first thing it did was tell me I had no DVD burning device. I think I did two or three reinstalls before it recognized it. Go to their on-line "tech support" and they have nothing on that error message. Do an advanced search and you get Page Not Available or something to that effect and a page of sales material instead.

Click on Troubleshooting and it takes you to an entirely different product. Click on InterVideo Technical Support and you get the runaround. It takes you back to where you were before.

I wrote tech support through thecustomer sarvice email address that they happpened to give me when I purchased and got ignored. They never wrote back. When you purchase this joke, this con job, they give you a number you can call in the first 14 days if you wish to cancel and request a refund. It is voice mail. You leave a message. You can email — if you are wise enough to write down the email address that's for requesting refunds at the time of purchase, that is— and you get an automated response. And then they tell you it takes them 12 to 15 days to process your request for a refund!!!

It takes them 12 to 15 seconds for them to process your purchase. But then they are on the taking end. It takes them 15 DAYS (business days, that is — and yes they will milk it for the full 15 days) when they are on the giving end.

The fifteenth day was yesterday. Had the money not appeared in my account I would be calling these people liars as well as thieves, but at least they had the good sense to not stiff me and enrage me enough to go to the Governator and his Attorney General, as well as the FTC.

These people duck their customers, and for good reason. They know their stuff is crap and that they are going to have plenty of enraged suckers, er customers. No manual either, by the way. FAQ's are a joke and only address basic issues. ("I can't register my copy. What am I doing wrong." Stuff like that.) These "people" belong in jail.

They (give you 30 days full function for free. It is hard software to learn (not just — but all video-processing stuff), but at least — gives you good manuals.interVideo gives you five minutes to try their program before buying. Five-minute sessions, that is. Any longer and you might get wind of what they are up to, plus find all the bugs and want to write to tech support and then find out how they leave you twisting in the wind.
