Complaint / Review
Circuit City
Ripoff, rude, misleading, Houston

I went into Circuit City a few weeks ago looking for a laptop. I had saw an ad in the newspaper and wanted to go check it out. The sales consultant I had talked me into buying a much more expensive laptop.instead of spending $799.00 I ended up spending $1,499.00. Which was fine with me as long as it was a good laptop. I told him I was worried about the size, thinking that it may be too heavy for me. He assured me that if it was I could bring it back. He told me about their 14 day return policy and said if I thought it was too heavy to bring it back with in those 14 days.

I also bought Microsoft Office, powerpoint ect. They insisted I have it installed in the store because it would be very difficult for me to do at home by myself. (I know I was stupid to fall for this but I did.) I got the laptop home and tried it out for a couple nights. And, it was too heavy.

So, I brought it back and explained my situation to the front clerk who told me to hang on while she got a manager. The manager tried to talk me into exchanging it for a smaller one, which I was thinking about doing until he threatened me with the re-stocking fee, which I knew nothing about.

Apparently, if you return a laptop they charge you a 15% restocking fee, or in my case, $200. They explained that there are signs all around the store and on my reciept. And then he laughed at me as if this happens daily. I told him that my sales consultant told me that I could return it, no problem, and never told me of the fee. He told me that my sales consultant quit. (this was 3 days later) Then the girl behind the desk proceeded to tell me that I was lying that my sales consultant would NEVEr have said that. Well, HE DID.

I did not see one sign in the store as I went around with him and asked them to have pointed out. The reciepts for circuit city are like a foot long and I had already signed the reciept before I even had a chance to read it.

I think they are dishonest and misleading. They stole $200.00 from me AND another $40.00 that I paid to have the microsoft office installed. I will NEVER to business with such a shady company again. It's no wonder people are starting to go to best buy, Frys, and sears. If they want to charge a restocking fee that is fine but at least be up front about it. They are as trashy as a backdoor used car dealership. I work at a very popular company that deals with an immense amoumt of customer service. I have told my story to over 100 customers since this has happened to me. They will earn EVERY cent they stole from me.
