I did not know Micheal Walker, IF that is his real name, had a history here, but hind sight is always 20/20.
I found the website getitrepaired.com, and what seemed like a good deal was the connector cable that goes from the laser to the main board for about $3 each. This is about half of what they normally cost. I noticed his inflated shipping costs however, so I figured I was still paying about the same. I put in an order for a few what I thought would be brand new cables, the website did not mention anything about them being used cables at all.
A few days later, I recieve USED cables in the mail. I was just a little hot under the collar about that, of course. There are several reasons why not to install a used cable 1) this particular cable moves each time the playstation is used - the laser is on a track that reads the disk and the flexible cable moves w / the laser. 2) If the cable develops a break, it could create small power surges in the line going to the laser itself, which can destroy the laser - semiconductor lasers are very sensitive to even a small over voltage condition, even if it is just for a short time.
When one of these cables breaks it might still be good part of the time, but when it reaches the failure point, it can generate power spikes as it makes and breaks connection to the laser...
An experienced electronics technician should know this (as Micheal Walker claims on his website to be) and would not be selling something that would be destructive to install in an unsuspecting device.
I have a second complaint about Mr. Walker is he called me up at my residence after I talked to my credit card co. About this. He called me up and started screaming so loud a guest could hear him screaming. It was very unprofessional.
These cables - a couple of them look pretty rough, probably would not last long in use and could ruin the laser as well. Not worth it.
In addition, Mr. Walker stated to me during the above phone call that there are NO NEW PARTS HERE, and also stated I SHOULD SEND IN MY PLAYSTATION to which must mean he would fix it with used parts, which is unusual, because how could he possibly offer a warranty on used parts as his website states?
I feel Mr. Walker's buisness practices are fraudulent and I would like to recieve a refund for the entire amount, If I had known that these cables were used in the first place, I would not have purchased them. Thanks for reading.
