On 4-19-10 my mom & I requested my dad's medical records. (he was inpatient) We were thinking of having a 2nd opinion or transferring dad. Mom checked off everything when requesting records (HAVE COPY) Were given a yellow envelop. Didn't have time to look over that day. Were beat driving 30 min to & 30 min back and staying by bedside for hours. Since 4-7-10; admitted 4-8-10 OR -gallstone removal. [4-20-10 dad was suppose to get EEG to see if he had brain damage. He had spike a temp. 106 & the hospital didn't have a cooling blanket & we were afraid of brain damage. If dad DID NOT have brain damage, would have had a trach. Tube put in; since he had been on vent for so long.
4-19-10 we went to sleep & at 0230 (now 4-20-10) got a phone call saying dad had died.
In May - looked over rec'd records. There were only @25 pages. This wasn't even 1/10 of dad's medical records. Had to re-request records & now mom had to pay $625.00 cuz dad was NO LONGER INPATIENT! Briefly looked at. Grief over came us and we grieved for over a year. Finally got bact to medical records (trying to find out WHAT THE! @$! #$! HAPPENED) only to discover 100 pages duplicate. 50-100 unreadable, results missing, deleted, copied so only 1/2 page is shown, falsified, doctored, etc. {Hired document expert for verrification} Multiple phone calls and emails to SRRMC.
SRRMC says mom HAS TO PAY AGAIN!!! For dad's medical records. Have tried to explain if mom had received everything requested on 4-19-10 she won't have paid $625.00 to obtain them @5-5-10.
It is the LAW - that one is able to obtain COMPLETE AND UNALTERED MEDICAL RECORDS WITHOUT DELAY OR REVIEW! Yet it took days to obtain - rec. Dept said printer problems, etc. SRRMC reviewed and altered! HELP - suggestions
