When I left my full time job with full health benefits, I contacted NASE to get coverage as a self employed person. I specifically asked the rep to give me exactly the coverage I had before, just that I would take higher deductibles to keep the cost down. What I got was NOT what I asked for and although they blame me for not reading the hundreds of pages of vague and 'open to interpretation by the insurance company' statements, I have basically been told to f*^ off... Too bad...
I would have accepted them saying that I have to pay a bit more and they will cover me. However, now that I have injured my shoulder and have long term doctor and physical therapy costs, they tell me that I am not covered. After calling a few times, they 'evaluated the claims again' and found that in fact my PT costs were covered, but had to apply against a $5000 deductible. This deductible I had thought was for major medical expenses, like hospitalization which would eat that up in a day.
The doctor's office visits, Xrays, treatment or extremely expensive MRI's I need are NOT COVERED... (only if I was almost dying and needed an operation for it will they cover it!)
I found another company that is HALF the price and covers all this, Golden Health Insurance. If you are NASE covered for you and/or family (self employed) I encourage you to look into Golden Health, hopefully not all insurance companies are rip offs. My total bill for my injury will top $5000 this year... Plus Mega has increased their lame coverage from $750/month to $875/month, so my total layout for SHI^ coverage will be around $15,000 of after tax, out of pocket, non-tax applicable hard earned money... So much for saving for college for my twins...
Watch out! Nase is a rip off and there are other choices!!!
