I recently discovered a charge from Massage Envy on my credit card. Upon review of past statements I discovered I had been charged $49.00/month for the past 2 years without authorization. I called the location and got the run-around being told "there is nothing I can do, you have to call back and speak with the manager (who is somehow never present)". I was told this several times. I also found out during this time that my account had 22 massages on the books and my account was in auto-renew. I immediately closed my credit card and reported this to the fraud department. I have spoken with the manager only once, who is now avoiding all contact with me. When I questioned her about these practices and why no one contacted me when they saw that I had so many massages building up, she laughed and let me know there are a lot of people who have more than me and they don't mind. I don't think stealing money is a laughing matter. I have now contacted the corporate office and have documented every call to this location. They owe me $931.00, and that is just for the charges over my initial 6 month contract (where I only used 1 massage because the service was so lousy).
BEWARE of this company. Here, you truly get what you pay for. A terrible massage, no customer service, and a company that will steal money from you. They should be required to repay every penny taken through auto-renewal and this practice should be illegal.
After I closed my account, I started getting emails about auto-renew attempts from other companies because they were no longer able to charge my account. I would advise everyone who gives out their credit card information for any type purchase to close your account and have it reissued. If you can get at least one digit of the account number changed they will no longer be able to steal from you.
