After paying $56 for enrollment fee in the Southwest Dental Del Sol Silver III Plan for Seniors, I appeared for my first dental appointment on November 9 for routine x-rays, loose gold onlay and diagnosis of any possible dental care necessary to maintain optimum dental health. Full mouth x-rays were taken and my teeth were examined by Dr. Sara Mosley. I joined insurance program because of closer proximity to my residence. I was very happy with my former dentist but the long drive to his office has become too much for me in my elder years. Dr. Mosleys diagnosis was that I needed 2 crowns due to fractured mercury fillings on lower left with decay; another crown needed on lower right due to decay under gold onlay. Dr. Mosley never showed me the films of the alleged decay. Also, Dr. Mosley suggested a scaling and root planing on all four quadrants. The total bill for these procedures and services at Southwest Dental totaled $2,343.00 Second Opinion by former dentist on November 23. I did not inform them I had had a diagnosis by Southwest Dental Groups Dr. Mosley a few weeks earlier. My dentist removed the gold onlay, took out a small spot of decay and replaced the onlay, no need for crown; he checked the two teeth that had been diagnosed by Dr. Mosley as having fractured fillings and informed me that the mercury fillings were not fractured and did not need crowns. I had a regular teeth cleaning, x-rays, repair under gold onlay and examination by my dentist which totaled $264.00. Southwest Dental is obviously a total and complete rip-off. The initial come on low fee schedule and subsequent low charge of $41 for exam and x-rays was bait. Even with my perfect teeth I obviously did not take the bait.
