I asked to cancel my contract, and accept the penalty, but the contract is still not cancelled and the next payment is due today!

I had contacted ProFinServ via telephone to cancel the contract, I had send a handwritten letter to them to cancel the contract, and just now, I had sent an email to cancel the contract, but for some reason, my contract is still active and the next payment is due today! I had already told them that they should cancel the contract as I accept paying half of the full initial price as penalty for doing so, but I do not know if the person who had read the letter actually read my letter of cancellation.
