I joined Anytime Fitness in Leesburg, VA on 12/29/08.in March I was surprised when I showed up to work out only to find a sign in the window that said the club was closed. I contacted the owner, and was told that my membership was transferred to an Anytime Fitness in the next town over. When I told the owner that this location was inconvenient for me, he told me to send him an e-mail. I did and received confirmation that my membership was cancelled. I immediately called and asked about a refund of the unused portion of my membership dues, and was told to give him "a week or two to process it". I contacted him a week later and was told that I would hear something within 2 more weeks.
Well it has now been three weeks, and I have not heard from him, and am not getting any response from my calls or e-mails. I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, and will file a court case tomorrow. All I want is the unused portion of my membership dues returned to me. This owner owns the club he tried to transfer me to, and told me that he had to close the Leesburg club because the landlord wouldn't renegotiate his lease. I wonder why I was not told that the club was in danger of loosing it's lease at the time I signed up and paid 1 year advance dues? Also, at the time I signed up, I was told and it is still advertised on the website, that a club would be opening near my work. Well, it's been 3 months, and the location advertised is still for lease with no signs of a fitness club moving in.incidentally, the website also lists the Leesburg location as being open.
