Non Attentive To Needs of Patients

My Mother-In-Law is a resident of this Nursing Home. When we put her there the facility had been open for 6 weeks. It was a beautiful pleace. The landscape was perfect. It has several places outside for the family to come and visit that is very accomditing. We were lead to believe that was a facility that cared about the residences.

She has numerous health problems that need attentive care. She has a stomach tube in and it needs to be looked after for several other needs. We have a Hospice worker who comes in 3-4 times a week to bath and see to her needs for several hours each time she is there. She needs to wear a diaper at all times.

While there she has developed shingles, bed sores, infections around her body. She was put into a wheelchair that they put her in with a seat belt to hold her up. They would leave her this was for several hours in front of a TV. They have done this with several other patients that they feel are too weak to complain. When a family member or friend show up they all of a sudden pay extra attention to the patient.

I went there because I needs Physical Rehab on my legs. I watched how they treated these patients. I was appalled at what I was seeing. All we had known was the "extra" that we saw when we showed up. I knew that the care was not what were led to believe. I was so glad to have been there to witness this.

The sit the patients in a large room they call the Courtyard Cafe. It is nice looking but the food is horrible. I realize that this is not a hospital with the care and nutrition you would receive there. I know they have several patients that need special diets. All of the breakfast menu was the same. Powdered scrambled, unless a relative requested a fried or poached egg. The bacon was very rubbery, the toast was hard, the Cream of Wheat and Oatmeal were cold.

They were extremely slow in providing for those who were having problems feeding themselves. Their were 15 to 20 residents that were just sat at the tables and left alone to feed themselves. They could not do this by themselves. There was a different room that they put about 10-15 people in that they assisted in feeding. One person was at each table feeding 6 people at once. They had one person there to pass out coffee, milk, water or juice. This person would ask what they wanted and brought it to them even if they were unresponsive and would spill the liquid if they could handle it. I was given the same meals as the others and some I would never feed others. They had at onetime a BBQ sandwich thet several people could not eat because of problems and they became nauseaus. The foood

They never offerred to help those who only needed a little help. They also would just leave their plates in front of them and leave to feed their selves. I honestly did not believe that would do this. They had nursing assistants who were to go to each room when the light and buzzer went off. Their response at this was from 3-10 minutes. Then if it was a diaper change they would tell them to just wait no matter what function it was. If they needed medication then they would tell the nurse would be there in a little while.

My roomate was a lady who is 85 years old and has dementia. She awake at night screaming about her husband not being there. Their were others also who did the same thing. They took their time getting to them. Their are several patients who walk the halls at night and come into several rooms. One in paticular would come in and sit in a chair and just look around. He came into out room and asked where the bathroom was. I called the nurse and then went into the hallway and ask loudly if someone could help. They said just not worry they would take him to his room and put him to bed. Within 15 minutes he was out again.

The staff was very unresponsive to the patients needs. They ignored the ones that need more assitance. I could not believe what was happening.
I was so glad that I was sent to them instead of another. I am glad I got to see with my own eyes what goes on.
