A relative went to their "rehabilitation center" afte joint replacement surgery. The physical therapists (from an outside company) were apathetic about doing the necessary therapy to ensure the joint's good-working, and unforthcoming about what needed to be done, until the patient asked repeatedly and specifically what therapy was needed for the patient to "get done and go home". The attitude of Lakeshore seemed to be "we're keeping you as long as the money keeps coming, and we won't tell you how to be released".
The patient, fortunately, had a gung-ho social worker, who raised cain, especally after she discovered the staff had allowed a nasty pressure ulcer to form, and were not doing much to treat it. Also, the social worker for the Ward knew nothing about how things worked, or who to contact within the facility for specific problems (and "disappeared" three days later).
A check on the Internet with Florida Health Department inspections revealed 11 citations in 2 years, several of which were repeats. The latter included not keeping records correctly, and, giving the wrong medication (s).
The patient also stated the food was tasteless and very repetitive. Also, the rehab patients were put in rooms in the Dementia Ward, which, naturally, caused depression. I also noted that the RN's treated the LPN's like flunkies, and that staff morale overall was pretty poor. Poor staff morale has a direct impact on patient care.
Many of the Nursing Homes in Tampa are mediocre, but this one is bad, even by Tampa Standards!
