I originally got Aetna health insurance through my school. I wasn't feeling well one day and decided to go to the hospital. They ran a bunch of tests and sent me home. 2 weeks later I went to the hospital again. I was admitted and stayed in the hospital for a few days. I was sent a form to fill out by Aetna regarding previous insurance. I filled the document out and sent it back to Aetna. I called to check on the status of my claims and was informed that they didnt have all the info they needed from me and told me I had to send them info directly from my previous insurance co. I did. I called later to Aetna and was told that it wasn't sufficient and they needed a more detailed document. I did. Now take in mind that this process took awhile because I had to wait for my prior insurance co. To send me info and then once received mail it to Aetna which took alot of time. I called Aetna again only to find out again that it was correct info. My prior insurance co. Was getting frustrated because they didnt know what else to do. I finally blew up at Aetna and told them that what I sent was going to have to work. They finally accepted it.
Oh I forgot to add that the last time I had sent the info to them I was told I would get a call back to verify it was recieved. I did not. I called a week later and they said that it hadn't been processed yet and to wait another week. I called that following week and was told to wait a little longer. I called again later and was told that the person who I had faxed the info to no longer worked for the company and that they didnt have the info I had faxed and that I needed to refax it. I was so angry by then.
By then I had started to receive letters from all the doctors threatning me to send me to collections. I constantly had to keep all the doctors updated on what was going on with my insurance company. There were alot of doctors to call.
Weeks later I called to find out why nothing had been paid. They told me that they were still waiting to get info from one of the doctors. I called that doctor and they told me nothing was received. I called Aetna back and they said that wasn't the doctor it was a different doctor they were waiting on. I called that doctor and they said they had sent Aetna all the info they needed. I called Aetna back later that week and was told they had received everything they needed and everything was going to be sent back through to be reprocessed. I called a week later only to find out that nothing had been processed and that they needed a form filled out before anything could be paid. Now keep in mind this is like 9-10 months after going to the hospital. Why didn't I get this document months ago. Why now? I quickly faxed the document only to find out AGAIN that they needed another form for me to fill out. That is when I said enough was enough.
The reason I was given for all the paperwork and all the time spent was I was being investigated on a pre-existing condition. Are you kidding me?
That day I decided to contact my school and further it with them. This is just a few things that happened with Aetna. It has been 11 months now from the hospital visit and no payment has yet to be made.
I will not give up until justice has been made. Aetna lies, cheats, doesnt return phone calls and refuses to pay. Don't ever deal with this company unless you want to slowly kill yourself with all the stress.
