I had to get a CT scan and I called Mega months before the scan. I asked them to add a rider to my policy that would cover the scan. She told me that the rider would have a $500 deductible, I would pay 20% and they would pay 80%. I asked the woman several times if this was correct. Yes, this is what we cover. I repeatedly asked her because i did not want a bill for thousand of dollars. Yes, that's what we cover. I have had scans in the past. My hospital charges the insurance company $8600 for a full body scan. A typical scan costs between $300-800 (I have researched this on the web, talked to Blue Cross/Blue Shield, talked to a doctor friend and also a friend that works in the emergency room. They all confirmed this was correct. That's another story in itself with the hospital price.). Blue cross paid $1500 for my past scans. I get my bill from the hospital. Mega paid $860 and now I have a bill for $7,750. I called Mega and they said no, that wasn't what the rider covers. I told her what I was told (they are the professionals, right? I believed what they told me.).
No, that isn't true. I told her that they need to cover what they told me. She said that wouldn't and did i want to file a complaint. Yes, I want to file a complaint. I haven't heard a word from them and it's been 2 weeks now. I sent a letter to the hospital. I haven't heard from them either. I cannot afford to pay $7,750. When I called the hospital he told me that I did indeed have crappy insurance. I told him why should I be penalized for having crappy insurance but they would accept $1500 from Blue Cross. I'm so distraught that now I have a $7700 ct scan bill! I am getting no help from anyone on this matter. I don't know what to do now. Mega pays crap on these bills. I have several hundred dollars of unpaid medical bills because I didn't do this or this wasn't done or i looked at them cross eyed. They are the worst. Their policies are a load of crap. So isn't the NASE. I bought the extra rider to pay over what Mega pays. That was totally useless.
