The above company called my residence on 2/2 inquiring about an overdue balance from 10/13. I returned their call on 2/5 and was told that I was overdue on a bill from 10/13 for $250.00.
I had never received an invoice within the 3 year period and my address and information had not changed from what was originally provided to the dental office. Note that I was twenty two years old at the time the service was rendered and for all I knew my mother had paid for me. I was told by the dental office that they were mailing my invoices to a PO Box address that I had never heard of. Supposivley that had messed up my records with my fathers.
I asked them to check the address in my physical file, and sure enough it was the correct address. I was then told that I had already been sent to a collections agency. I asked for the number of the collection agency and was told if I paid my bill they would reverse the bad credit marks against me. I paid this "so called bill" out of fear. I still demanded the name of their collection agency. I spoke with their collection agency, and they did not have me on file at all.
I called back to speak with them and was told that they made a mistake, and that it was my father who was sent to the collections agency. I asked for an original copy of the invoice for my records and told them they would never hear from me again upon my receipt of the original invoice.
I was faxed a statement dated 2/5 showing current charges paid. It contained my name and my correct address which is not sufficient evidence that I was ever invoiced in the first place, or that they had a wrong address on file. I called back and asked for an original invoice copy and was told that it was not their problem and that because the mistake was made by a former employee, that it is not their fault so they couldn't send me one. They said they send their invoices electronically and could not obtain copies. Lets get real, that is unheard of for any accounting system. All unpaid balances left open have the original invoice on file.
I left my number so that they could contact me regarding an original invoice copy and was called by the dentists wife who said that I am not to call and "harass her staff" anymore and that name calling is not tollerated. Mind you that I never spoke a curse word, or called anyone a name. I asked if they were computer literate or had an education. I seems a bit ignorant that they did not feel that I was legally entitled to a copy of the original invoice, nor did anyone know how to obtain one. No one pays off of statements, it is unheard of.
All I wanted was sufficient evidence that I had been originally invoiced, and I wanted to see for myself that they had used a wrong address. After making me cry, saying I was sent to a collections agency, and acting like I was in the wrong for not paying a bill I never knew about; the dentists wife said I wasted enough of their time and not to call there office again. She also said for them to obtain a original invoice was impossible.
Not only did they upset my life by saying that I had been reported to a credit agency, they took no fault by not invoicing me for three years. The dentists' wife did not even want to listen to what I had to say, or what their staff had put me through. This seems to be the type of business that will report someone to a collections agency without even attempting to contact them.
They do not support consumers legal rights and their records are not to be trusted. Not to mention the fact it does not seem that they truely care about anyone but only for their money.
