I had a spinal disc surgery on jan 21st this year in the spring prior to my surgery I began to feel pain in my leg. At first I thought it was just a pulled muscle from swimiming, and I thought eventually it would go away. After a couple of months passed the pain got so bad I couldn't walk or stand on my feet 4 more than 5 min at a time without being in the worst imaginable pain where it got so bad if I was in store I would have to sit down on the floor. It was like a muscle spasm that wouldn't go away and became increasingly worse.
After seeing my doctor jed gardner who was assingned to me at scott&white clinic in killeen who told me was just a minor thing that would go away, whose recommendation to me was (while I was at work I should elevate my foot and put it on a foot stool) obviously didn't do a damn thing 4 me. Eventually he recommended that I go to the hospital in temple 4 an (M.R.I.) the results from the MRI showed to me by doctor harris were that I had a disc in my back that had slipped out.
DR. Harris explained to me that the slipped disc was pinching nerves that were sending signals making me believe my leg was hurt and he recommended surgery. Cutting the disc would help and get rid of the pain. I decided that I would have the surgery since I had no alternative other than being in terrible pain the rest ov my life and being unable to walk or work.
After my recovery and healing period which was approx 2 months, I had returned to S&W clinic in killeen because I have been having pain in my knees. Again DR Gardner recommended me to another doctor DR KIRKPATRICK who sent me get another MRI. After dr kirkpatrick had results from (MRI) he told me that the cushioning between my
knees had worn all way down due to age and what ever stresses. Then he recommended me to see an ortho surgeon at S&W in temple. And he made me an appointment there. The next day I had rehab therapy at S&W hospital in temple, in occupational medecine there, the
evaluate your stress factors to give all the info to your place of employment (like how far you can stretch reach bend lift etc) which is nescessary for my job as a sales associate at ft hood texas, where I work in the main convenience store for all the soldiers.
I work as cashier and it's a non stop fast paced job requires me b on my feet non stop and excessive bending and liftin repetitve non stop. During my therapy at occupational health at S&W I was on my knees doing
stretching exercises when my left knee cracked so loud it shocked my therapist and I was unable to continue. My therapist said wow was that your knee? I replied yes and she said well I guess we need to stop now. Aand we won't be doing any more aerobics.
I had waited a month after that for my appointment with the surgeon about my knee. Finally, frustrated, I went back to hospital and they told me the never made an appointment for me to c a doctor. I returned to see
dctor kirkpatric at killeen clinic, when I saw him and told him the situation he got on his personal cell phone and made an appointment for me to see a surgeon in temple.
Several weeks later when I finally went to my appointment I saw the ortho surgeon there, he told me there was a mistake and that I am not in his department.
Then he took me to his recptionist and told me that she would make me another appointment to see another doctor, the receptionist told me go home and they would call me when I had to come in for my appointment.
Three weeks later, when I see the ortho surgeon he
tells me that he doesn't believe that surgery would help my knee, he says I have arthritis and surgery isn't recommended, and come back and see him if it gets worse, and he prescribed some pain relief medecine the whole consultation lasted about 2 min. Not satisfied with the so called help ive been getting and still in pain I
returned to see DR kIRKPATRICK in killeen.
When I went to see him his attitude towards me had changed and he told me what you want while he laughed at me a (all u have is lil arthritis) I told him I was still in pain, and the ibuprofen he prescribed was of no help at all, he gave me another prescription and said " why do you keep coming to see me go back to dr gardner hes your doctor" so I left.
After him laughing at me and basically tellinh me to get lost I went to S&W health plan in temple and made a complaint as to the treatment and service I was gettingg from their hospital and poor treatment and bad manners of DR k irkpatric. At S&W health plan they told me to write a formal complaint and with it tell what I want done to resolve the matter and what I want for compensation etc, which I did. Then they told me to take a copy of my complaint with demands to S&W clinic in killeen to dr kirkpatric. I dropped a copy of my letter at receptionist at the clinic. I returned to hospital
in temple and requested another doctor because I was treated like sh* from the ones I had seen and especially dr kirkpatric laughing at me when I tell him I am in pain and not getting help I need.
At the hospital in temple they recommended that I see (doctor steven smith) I went to see DR S MITH and told him that I was in pain and I was diagnosed with arthritis buti think its more to it than that, he said "just min I need go check ur files" a couple mins later he returned, when he came back in the exam room his face was red and he was watery eyed and had an irate voice and manner. Then he said to me " I see that you had made a threatening complaint and letter against
DR Kirkpatric" I replied "yes but its not threat I am seein an attorney about the matter" At this point he said in a irate voice and manner " we are thru here" I said what you mean are you saing you don't want to see me as my doctor? He replied while he was shakin
mad" yes "
I said fine you will hear from me" then he was real mad and he got more irate and loud he got up outta his chair and was yelling at me saying " are you threatening me!" then he jumped up and moved in the hall yelling "I'm calling security. Security he threatened me" I never said a word as I had walked to the front and was handin my doc form to make my payment. DR SMITH was standing
behind me in the lobby area where patienswere waitin yelling very loud " security! Where's security" then agin he yelling as I was leaving " don't you ever come back to this hospital again without a lawyer"!!
After that I returned home and made another complaint with scott& white health plan on the phone and they told me that they would recommend me to another doctor. These ppl have caused me endless grief and suffering and I belive that I have been treated unethically and very poorly so besides lookin g for help from you I am writing all the news papers and forums in the state and Giving this info to tv news ppl etc. They have my record and have tied them up in paperwork which has caused a situation where I cant return to work till I get all the stress reports etc fom S&W hospital. It's caused
me excessive financial loss and hardship and in large it has to be related to the fact that I hurt my knee when I was undergoing therapy at the hospital in temple, because after that incident, that's when all of a sudden all my appointments were lost and records ov appointments wer never made etc etc so I hope you can

Since this has happended I have been in oregon under another doctors care and have been refered to neurosurgeon john kast in corvallis or. Because of major problems with my neck that should have been detected by scott & white after all the mriscans I have had, but they don't want to face up to their negligence. They killed my father Carl l. Reid in 1977 when they accidentally cut away part of his spleen. No attorneys around will face scott & white hspital because they are to powerful and its caused me and my family great pain and suffering. Dr. Steven Smith is a monster and should be sent to jail for his actions.
