April 22 I ordered the free ($4.87) UltraP/M diet pills that were advertised online.
So far I have been charged $92.90 for items I never asked for and a web fitness program I had no idea I was signing up for.
May 13: I called 1-800-757-1279. This was the requested way of handling the cancellation —as stated on the packing slip of the UltraP/M order. The operator said she would cancel my order.
May 24: I noticed a $44.90 debit to my account from ULTRA LIFE. I called the number on my statement to find out what this was for. That was when I found out that the operator had not cancelled future shipments. It was explained to me that the order was already in the mail so it could not be cancelled and neither could I get a refund.By the way, I never did get the item.
May 31: there was another debit to my account; this time for $24.00. I called the number given on my statement and was told this was for a membership to ULFIT. I told the operator that I had never heard of such a thing and did not want it. She explained to me that the program was connected to Ultra PM. I restated that I did not want this membership. She said that she would cancel the membership and that there would be no further debits made to my account. When I asked for a refund of the dues that were taken from my account she said I could not get a refund. I was so dumfounded that I didn't think to ask why! The membership package arrived several days AFTER my account had been debited.
June 27: yet another $24.00 debit showed up on my bank statement. I sent an email to the web site reminding them of my phone calls and asking for a refund. The web site stated that I could expect to receive a response within 24 hours. To date there has been no response.
June 30: I made another phone call to Ultra Life Fitness. This time the operator put me in contact with someone else. I did not get his name. I was told that two emails had been sent giving me the option to opt out and the details regarding my membership BEFORE they charged my account. I never saw such emails. If they were sent at all they were probably sent to the Junk Mail folder. He explained that I had signed up for this when I paid for the FREE 21 day trialthat the membership was/is written into the Terms and Conditions. At this point I realized it was my fault because I did not read the fine print. BUT, I reminded him, that did not change what I was calling about. I was looking for a refund of the $92.90 that they had taken from my account.in response he, sternly, informed me I could take care of all that by going online and canceling my subscription — that I could also offer my billing concerns to that web site (ultralifefitness.com). This I did as soon as I got off the phone.
July 1: Went to my bank (Wachovia). They were most helpful and happy to help with my concerns. They promptly filed a fraud report and cancelled my debit card number. Ultra Life Fitness and UltraPM will not get one more dime out of me!
In short I learned a big lesson about ordering online. From now on I will be SURE it is a reputable company by checking with web sites like consumer complaintss. I will also read VERY carefully the Terms and COnditions. And, just because a doctor says something is great —it ain't necessarily so! Those pills aren't worth the bottle they are sent in. As for getting any reparation for my stupidity? The rest of the story is in God's hands!
