The employees didn't care enough to secure my wallet and it was stolen

Today I was in The Glen Burnie Target store in Baltimore. I decided to get something at the snack bar before leaving.

Then I was tempted to leave without purchasing anything because the girl behind the counter ignored me until she had completed writing cards out for commments regarding other employees and their preformances. She actually wrote two before acknowledging me and she talked to another employee while taking my order.

After I ordered, I took my food and bags but left my wallet behind. After realizing that I didn't have my wallet, I returned to the snack counter. As soon as I approached the food counter, the girl, said "you left your wallet." I instantly felt releived. Then the security gaurd came out and she said, "this lady is here to get her wallet." He didn't know what she was talking about. She said "remember it was here on the counter and I pointed it out to you." He said that he thought I was around the corner so he didn't pick it up and left it. She also said that she did not remove it off of the open counter. I went from feeling fortunate and releived to upset that my wallet was left to sit on the counter with noone watching it and no attempt was made to look out for a customer.

Since there are no cameras at the food counter, there is no video tape. I was told to leave my contact information and no details or incident report was made. When I exited the store, I phoned the police and made a report because this is now a theft. The officer spoke to both employees that said that noone secured my wallet and admitted to not making any effort to secure it so they left it out in the open. The officer was in disbeleif as well and told them what their process should be when items are found.

At this point my wallet has been stolen. Noone spoke to the girl ath the counter until the police officer spoke to her.

I know it is not the employee's fault that I left my wallet behind but I am disheartened that two people who work for Target (one who is a security guard) made no attempt to secure my wallet and turn it into customer service. I am saddened that this world has come down to people who do not care or offer customer service by doing the right thing.
