Bought a Siemens Gigaset 2420 and 5 handsets (over $700) 3 years ago. Almost immediately, the handsets started failing, all with the same symptoms—battery would not charge, speaker dropped out, needed to frequently re-register the handsets with the base. Siemens observed their warranty term to the letter, stopping any replacement (even of failed handsets they replaced) at one year—no matter this was supposed to be a high-end phone system. They claimed that my problems were "mechanical, " and therefore they would not cover them. I handled my handsets well-never dropping them.
In an attempt to get my phones working again, I opened one up (I'm an electrical engineer), and found out the source of most of the problems—really shoddy corner-cutting design.in particular, there were some friction contacts that were not plated with a corrosion-resistant metal, therefore they were completely unreliable over more than a short time.
I also found out that many people complaining in various internet forums had the EXACT same problems I did. We all thought Siemens was a quality brand, but we quickly found we were wrong. They dropped their poorly designed equipment like a hot potato rather than stand behind their mistakes.
Do not buy gigaset! You will be trapped, too!
