Compusa advertised a Netgear computer router at a price of $59.99 less two rebates, one of $20 and another of $10 making the final cost to the consumer at $29.99 plus tax. Two rebate forms needed to be filled out and a UPC code sent with each rebate (no copies allowed!). Both rebates were to be sent to the same address.
If the rebates were put in the same envelope the $10 was approved but the $20 rebate was denied on the basis that putting both rebate forms in the same envelope combined the rebates and this was not allowed. Of course, by disallowing copies of the UPC and having both rebates mailed to the same address, many purchasers put both rebate forms and receipts in the same envelope and have had the larger rebate denied.
