Sold a lemon, excessive repair delays, non-cooperation to exchange

August 30, i purchased a 32" SONY Tritron TV from PC Richard in Yonkers. I began using it September 4 (after the stand for it came).

On October 2, it stopped working. I called SONY in an attempt to troubleshoot over the phone. Based on what I described was happening, they told me a service call was required.

PC Richard's sole service contractor is Nusonic/Frontier. I called them Friday, October 3 to have someone come to my house to fix the TV. They would not come until Wednesday, October 8. At that time, 2 computer boards were removed from the TV and taken to the shop to be analyzed.

Thursday, October 16, Nusonic returned with the boards, which still did not work. Then they took the boards back with them to the shop for further examination. October 16 I attempted to call PC Richard to arrange for a TV exchange. After being put on hold several times, only to eventually be disconnected, a manager who was sympathetic told me I could exchange the TV if I got back the original parts from Nusonic (the TV needed to be exhcanged as a whole).

On the morning of October 17, Nusonic said they were working on the parts and would know what the story was by day's end.in the afternoon they claimed they needed more time, and that returning original parts to me would require a ophone call from PC Richard management.

October 17, i called PC Richard. The manager i spoke with the previous night was not working. I requested to speak with another manager who was working and was told a manager would contact me. I never received a call.

Saturday October 18 & Monday October 20, I tried, but to no avail, to get a manager from PC Richard to call Nusonic & request the parts be returned to me from Nusonic so that I could return the TV for an exchange.

Instead Wednesday October 22, I am told by Nusonic that the parts they ordered came in and that they will come to my home to install them on Friday, October 24.

Friday October 24, i get a phone call around 5 PM, stating that the automobile of the reapirman broke down on the road and they cannot come until Wednesday, October 29.

That evening I made a personal appearance to "the scene of the lemonized crime" - PC Richard in Yonkers. After he was paged at least 3 times to come to the front desk (and I had seen him wandering around the store, so he was around), I spoke with the manager in person, who seemed to have no recollection of our prior phone conversations. He photocopied my receipts, etc, and said he would contact Nusonic the next day to arrange for original parts to be returned to me, and then contact me (presumably on Saturday).

Today is Monday, October 27. Haven't heard from him. I have now gone 4 consecutive weekends without a TV. This includes the entire baseball league championship series and World Series. This includes 4 consecutive NFL Sundays. I spent about 1,000 bucks on this TV (including stand and warranty).

October 22, I filed a complaint with Consumer Affairs.

People I have mentioned this to find this utterly disturbing.
