Mini 1000 Laptop from Verizon Stopped Working and $300 Repair Quoted

The HP Mini 1000 Laptops from Verizon have a flaw the laptop just stop working and HP wants to charge 300.00 USD to fix it but I paid less for the laptop itself. I checked all blogs and I see that many people are having the same problem. What can I do.
