Best Buy
Virgin Mobile RipOff

My boyfriend desperately wanted a cell phone but he did not have the credit, nor did I want to sign my name to a contract for him. Having recently been approved for a Best Buy credit card, we figured we would go to Best Buy and get a pay-as-you-go cellphone account.

When we got there, there were two salesman that were very happy to show us what the store had to offer by way of pre-paid wireless. We selected the most expensive phone for Virgin Mobile and bought two $50 usage cards.

My boyfriend tried for three days to activate the phone and Virgin Mobile could never get it activated. I took the original phone back to the store to get a replacement upon the Virgin Mobile Customer Service Rep's advice.

The second phone never activated either. My boyfriend was instructed to open one of the usage cards and give the rep the numbers off the back. The rep also told him to throw the card away, as once it is opened, it is useless.

Needless-to-say, the phone never activated and Virgin Mobile told us that we would have to get our refund back from Best Buy. So I treked back to the store, only to be faced with out-and-out rudeness. I called before I went in, because I knew that getting all of our money back was going to be difficult. I was assured that there wouldn't be a problem.

I spent over 4 hours in the store trying to get a refund. I finally got a refund for the phone and the unopened usage card. This was after the manager called me a bitch and told me that I was not always going to get my way. He also told me that yelling at his sales staff was only going to get me kicked out of the store. Unfortunatley for him, I was not yelling, but crying because out of the whole time I spent in the store trying to get a refund, only one gentleman was even nice to me. It wasn't our fault the phone didn't work.

I left the store and returned later because my boyfriend still did not have a cell-phone. The Sprint rep in the store convinced me to get my then current service with Cingular turned off and he would get me a great deal on two phones with Sprint. After I did as he instructed, I was told that the great deal wasn't possible because the phones he wanted to sell me were out of stock. He offered to sell me different phones that were not on sale and told me that I could exchange them later in the week for the phones he wanted to sell me. At this point I was so tired and worn down from all the torture, I just took the phones. I have no home phone service, so if I would have walked out, I would have had no service what-so-ever.

Turns out, the sale on the other phones ended before Best Buy received anymore shipments. I had asked the salesman about that before I bought the other phones and he assured me that it would not be a problem.

I never got to get the proper phones, I spent well over $400 that day, never got the $50 refund back from the original sale, and I am stuck with two phones that get terrible reception and cost more to use with the plan we chose. (The plan went with the other phones. Since we thought we were getting that plan, we signed up for it.) Aside from the money-loss, the manager made me feel like a big baby and called me names.
