I liked Tivo, I used it for 5 long years faithfully paying the monthly subscription fee. However when I switched from Comcast to U-Verse there is no way I could justify using the Tivo. So I called the customer service to cancel the subscription after U-Verce was installed last December.
No matter how much I tried to tell this Customer Service person, she would not let me cancel it. I explained the reason, she kept insisting that Tivo can be used with U-verse (yes, technically true) and she kept saying that just delay the cancellation for 3 months, since she can give me free 3 months due to my long subscription record.
Even though I had no intention of using Tivo, since there is no way to connect the U-Verse programming directly to Tivo, I got tired of arguing,
and starting to feel a bit sorry. She started to sound pitiful like the little match seller, may be she has to turn one customer to get her commision. Whatever the reason she finally won, I told her go ahead, I will cancel before the 3 months.
Just to make sure that I won't get charged from Tivo, I changed the Credit Card in tivo.com so that it will expire the next day.
Then I forgotten about the Tivo, I disconnected it and I had forgotten about the 3 months.
Now in May, I see a warning about past due notice from Tivo, sounds like I owe them 12.00 or so. I realised that I forgot to cancel the service
and I called up the Tivo Customer service to cancel and just have them forget this charge. The Tivo was long gone, I didn't think I needed to pay.
Well after 30 minutes or so in phone, I was threatened with Guido the Collection Agency unless I pony up the 12 bucks.
It was a horrifying and scarely experience. I guess I have to pay this fee and I should feel lucky.
Tivo was a good service but there is no way to make a clean break with these people.
