New Blackberry Storm two months old is defective, gets hot, Verizon to replace with used equipment

My wife ordered a new Blackberry Storm in late december and the unit was shipped to our residence in January. The phone gets hot within five minutes of use when talking, not warm. When on the charger, the chargng unit would get hot. The phone wouldn't sync up with the car's bluetooth so my wife bought an in-ear bluetooth at Best Buy. It still didn't work properly and after a few days wouldn't even make telephone calls. The screen was also sluggish.

My wife has been to the local Verizon stores at least twice (there are records at Verizon to verify) and she was told the phone didn't have updated software. She took it to a service center in a neighboring city and was told the software was indeed up to date. She finally requested a new phone when it simply quit working. Verizon shipped the replacement to the wrong address. My wife then learned that the replacement was a refurbished Blackberry, not a brand new Blackberry. These phones haven't been out more than three months and already they are sending out refurbished phones?

Customer service has refused to ship out a new phone, and the refurbished phone they were sending was to come without a battery, which we think was the cause of the problems. Heat and electronics don't mix. Verizon doesn't treat their long-time customers well, but expects customers to pay through the nose.
