I was laying on the couch when my roommate came home very excited. He said he had an opportunity to buy a home theater system for next to nothing. He said he was approached by two guys in a white van or suv at a Burger King in Tacoma and they were going to sell him a Divinci D7 home theater system for $300. Im not sure but I think they followed him to an ATM and then home because he already had the cash and he was asking me if he should go through with it.
At this point, I had never heard of this scam and I also know nothing about home theater systems. My roommate convinced me it was a good deal so I told him to do it. He went down stairs with the money (and my gun) and went through with the purchase. I peeked out the window to see him handing them the money and getting a big box in return. We got the box open and everything seemed to be there. All the components were wrapped in a packaging and everything looked brand new.
We got it all hooked up and turned it on. It sounded good but not what I would expect a $3200 home theater system to sound like. So I guess it was my roommates great plan to re-sell this system on Craigslist for a lot more than what he paid for it. I helped him post the add and everything was good to go... Or so I thought. I was notified by Craigslist this morning becuase "our" posting had been removed for being a fraud or something like that. Thats exactly when I realized my roommate had been scammed.
