My husband and I agreed we needed to purchase a new, small camera. After our research we decided on a model and did the typical search for the lowest price. We found two companies and decided on Broadway Photo because we liked the little extra they gave and the warranty option.
We new something was hokey AFTER we submitted the order because they didn't provide a receipt of our items and amount to be billed to our account.instead we received an email and fine print that said that there may be additional charges but they would contact us first.
I received a call confirming our mailing and billing info and additional sales pitch. The gentleman asked if I knew much about the camera. He then proceeded to tell me that the stock battery only lasts 20 minutes and that it would be best to buy an extended life battery. They had a few options and if I bought it now with the initial order it would be at a discount.
After hearing the options I agreed to add a 5 hour battery for $55.00. He then wanted to sell me a memory card which, thankfully, I declined (several times). Then he added a $19.99 charge for handling and insurance (this wasn't part of the original amount quoted to us because he says it is based on a percentage per state).
Longer story short, we received our order and found that the battery with the camera appears to be the sotck battery based on all the research that I can do (20 minute battery per the Broadway Photo rep). And the $55.00 battery appears to be nothing more than a replacement for the stock battery which they sell on their website for around $11.
I called to return the battery, because I don't care about the one with the camera anymore (at least I have the camera which is all I really wanted, is my thought). The representative was rude and told me he didn't understand what I was complaining about. He looked up the camera on the website for Best Buy and a few other stores and told me I got the greatest deal out there and that Broadway Photo made next to nothing on my order.
After explaining to him a dozen times that I didn't get what was promised, the bottom line is that they wont return the price or accept the return of the extra battery because he says it was a "package deal." I didn't buy it that way, but the invoice sure indicates that it was one price for everything.
So, just to recap, they called to upsale my order, sold me items at a price that constitutes highway robbery, sent inferior items and rigged the invoice and order to the point that I can't return anything unless it is everything.
