After I signed up for Direct TV, the ripoff started. The service was for 4 rooms at $29.99. After the installer showed up, he wanted another $129 to add a splitter if I wanted 4 rooms. After it was installed, Direct TV added NFL channels and started charging me for them. I never signed up for this and did not want it. It took three months, and me threatening to put the stuff in my driveway and have them pick it up before they took the charges off.
Over the last two years the service has been horrible. When my two-year contract was up, I canceled and returned the receivers at the end of August. Over two months after the return, I got a call from a collection agency saying I owed Direct TV $200 for boxes that were not returned. The collection agent became very abusive ("we will put this on your credit rating if you do not pay me now") after I told him he was not getting any money and that the boxes had been returned.
Direct TV could not add the $200 charge to my credit card because I had canceled it. What a lousy company. If anyone out there is considering canceling Direct TV and sending the boxes back, make sure you keep the tracking number, which I did.
