I purchased a Garmin Nuvi 750 GPS at The Camera Whiz Inc. Little did I know that these folks were prepared to LIE to and GOUGE a customer. Following my online order, I received a phone call from the company telling me that they wanted to help me out by advising me that the product I ordered was not going to work satisfactorily. They said I needed some additional things to get the GPS to function correctly.
The first lie: The caller told me I needed a memory card or I could not update the software. A two GB card would fix the problem. (Real Story: The first update from Garmin was over 2 GB and had to be saved on my PC and installed from there, and the GPS has enough on board memory to save some routes for reuse.)
The second lie: The caller said I needed was an AC power supply because the DC power cord would not charge the battery so I could not use the GPS unless I had a place from which to power it. (Real Story: The DC power cord and the Garmin supplied USB cable both charge the battery. The AC supply is nice but is NOT REQUIRED.)
The third lie: I needed some screen protectors for the touch screen on the GPS. (Real Story: Garmin does not recommend screen protectors because they reduce the sensitivity of the screen. Check the Garmin web site.)
I did manage to get them to take NO for an answer on the extended warranty the lie: they charge you almost the cost of a new GPS if it ever needs repairing, and on the replaced if lost insurance. I will not tell you how bad I got skinned, but the final bill was more than double the advertised price (Probably $200 to $250 more than the value of the merchandise). I would have returned the extra stuff, but I had opened it and was reading the GPS manual trying to figure out how everything went together when I came to the realization that I had been RIPPED OFF.
