Same story as reported elsewhere on this site—in fact, many exact details. These guys work off a script, talk a lot, fast so you don't have time to think: one Latino driver; one quiet type, also Latino; one charismatic motor mouth Dutch/Euro type with black plastic-frame glasses calling himself Gen de Falco.
They ask you what you like, friendly stuff to lower your guard. I was surprised how many suspensions of judgment I made. I usually research moderately to heavily before buying any electronic or AV goods, resist impulse buys, etc.—so I guess these guys are really well trained con artists, or I was in a particularly gullible moment.
Paid $756 for two pairs of speakers, despite the fact that these are huge. Where does one find room for speakers this big in New York? Feel like a real chump, pride in the gutter. I'll alert the local police, as it looks from other recent postings that they are trolling the streets now nationwide.
Getting scammed like this makes one remember good consumer practice: check manuals for good English, paper quality—read all materials; check up on telephone numbers, Web sites; LISTEN to the salesperson; SLOW DOWN everything; avoid impulse buys; NEVER pay fully in cash if that is what is insisted upon. Real bargains are not so rare that you will miss out if you miss this one.
