Hey I now wish I had read up on the Audiofile HT2006 Home theater.
2 Guys flag me down in the Staten Island Mall with a white Chevy Astro minivan with New Jersey Plates.
1 guy in the passenger had the dark hair and appeared to be latino.
The other guy was white and with blonde hair. 6 feet tall like all the other reports.
Real fast talker and had a magazine to support what he said about the speaker system.
I could not determine what magazine he was reading from but it seemed to be some kind of catalog from a home electronics company. He showed me some carbon copy on a clipboard of an order for the speakers, and said that there were 2 extra sets that he was not going to return to the company.
He said that the speakers would cost retail 1300 dollars and he just made a sale for them in the street for 600 dollars. I told him I was considering them for another person, and that the person would have to see them first. He made every effort to convince me that I should take them now no matter what because they were on their way to deliver the other speakers.
I said I had no 600 dollars and he said that I should go to the ATM to pull out the money. I replied I had no ATM access and that I only had 200 on me. He said I could have them if I could come up with 300 but I only had 200. Then he showed me all the parts inside the box, and some warranty card, and an instruction sheet that looked real cheap.
I took the set home. As he pulled off I thought I should write down the plate number, but I didn't. They were very very pushy about the sale and I fell for it. At least the speakers work, but it appears as if it's only part of a set that included a receiver that would power the satellite speakers. The sub works OK. I guess it could have been worse, as in the guy who paid 515 for the set.
They are in New York, and possibly New Jersey.
They said that since they were giving me such a good deal this time could I look out for them and buy some more stuff from them. When I asked where they would be next time one said "all over." Look out for them in your town
