On Thursday May 10 I purchased a Zenith VCR. I also purchased the extended warranty because I know how cheap electronics are made now a days.
When we got home upon opening the package it was apparent this item was returned merchandise. There was no batteries for the remote, the jumper coax cable was missing and the VCR was in no type of protective bag. For the heck of it I hooked it up only to find out it was defective. 33 miles round trip.
On Friday I return to the store and informed them showing proof that this item had been returned and was placed back on the shelf. A very understanding girl swapped it out for a new unit and gave me a $10 gift card to offset the cost of gas I wouldn't had to have spent if it wasn't for their failure. 33 miles round trip.
We got home, hooked this unit up and it too was defective. Only way it would work was to keep plugging and unplugging it. I decided to take this unit back and get a better quality unit.
Saturday back to the Spartanburg Circuit City store. I just happened to have the gift card with me because of my desire to buy a better unit. The customer service girl and a supervisor informed me the only way they would refund the full purchase price of the VCR was if I returned the gift card. I then asked the supervisor what happened to the please accept this card in apology for our negligence. His reply was "that's the way it is". I again explained to him that card was given to me in exchange for driving 33 unnecessary miles because they restocked return merchandise. He advised me he was aware of that but once again this is the way it is.
In closing 99 miles of travel to purchase one VCR that I still do not have. A supervisor who apparently feels that $10 is more needed for the managers bonus than a disabled vet on a fixed income needs it to replace income spent on gas. Never in my life will I ever purchase squat from Circuit City again.
