I canceled DishNetwork satellite service, and I was told that DishNetwork will not pick up their equipment but rather will send a box with instructions which I was expected to mail back to DishNetwork.By the time the box arrived, my new satellite from Direct TV was being installed and the contractor who installed the new satellite actually took off the old one, dissembled it and gave us the eye, (the important piece that DishNetwork wanted back). He is a contractor for both companies, Dish Network and Direct TV and was very helpful to make sure that I knew exactly on what needs to be mailed back. We sent back the eye, the receiver and the remote controls via UPS with a listing of what was inside which included the serial numbers of each piece.
The following month I was charged $100 and initially I was told that I did not return their equipment and hence was charged $100. I provided the tracking number from UPS, date and time when this package was accepted by DishNetwork, which then changed the story to say that yes indeed they received the package with the remotes and the receivers, but that the eye was apparently missingUPS confirmed that the package was delivered without any damages. Obviously, DishNetwork is using another one of their wonderful business practices to screw me out of $100, since they know they have lost me as a customer.
I was also told that if I were not to pay the outstanding amount immediately, I will be sent to collections. Following this treat I paid the amount but now would like to know if there is any recourse that I could take. There has to be a way to be protected. How else can one return their equipment if they don't pick it up themselves again and then lie about not having received everything?
