My Fiencee and I purchased a Magnavox 26 inch Flat Screen HDTV Model # 26MF231D/37 at Circuit City on 4/11. Since we had just moved back into our home as a resut of Hurricaine Katrina, we did not actually get the TV out of the box and hook it up until approximately 4/25/06. The sound went out on the TV and we returned it to Circuit City on 5/11. They replaced the television and gave us a new one as a.
On 5/27, the replacment TV totally quit working, no power at all. We returned this set on 5/28. When we returned the second TV, the employees at the store removed it from the box, plugged it in they got the same response, no power at all to the set.
We decided that we would like to try another brand but the store manager told us that the 30 day return warranty went back to the original purchase date of 4/11 and that we had no choice but to send the TV back to the manufacturer for repair.
Which could take up to 2 months. Of course that would be using 2 months of our 12 month warranty from the manufacturer.
My fiancee is totally disabled, his spine in fused from L3 to S1 so during this long ordeal, he began having severe back pain and asked for a chair or some place to sit. We were told that they had no chairs. I would think that is discrimination based on The Americans With Disabilities Act! They were very rude and uncaring.
Not being sitisfied with the information we were given in the store, we called to speak with someone at the 1-800-843-2489 number.
On 5/30, we spoke with someone named Richard (a supervisor) he stated that the 30 days should have started with the date we received the replacement (5/11) not the original purchase date and that it should never take longer than 7 days for repairs. He stated that he would check into the problem and get back with us.
On 6/1, a so-called supervisor named Reggie called back and stated that the information the store manager had given us was correct and that the 4/11, original purchase date was correct, that we could not get our money back and that there was nothing else to discuss. He also stated that there was no one there named Richard. My fiancee asked to speak with his superior, he told my fiencee that there was no one else he could speak with and said "Good Luck" attempting to find another number to contact anyone on a higher level than himself.
This morning, 6/2, I called the same 800 number and spoke with a supervisor named Andrew, wouldn't give his last name but gave me him employee number. He told me that If we had requested our money back on the first purchase and then bought another TV instead of getting a replacement, a new 30 days would have began.
Of course, there was much more said in the many conversations we had with supervisors at the 800 number but it would take too much space to giva all of the details. Overall, they were VERY RUDE, NASTY and UNCARING. I hope they can sleep at night!
I wish I would have bothered to read all of the consumer complaints before I purchased anything from Circuit City and will never do business with them again!!
