For the last year I've been getting statements in the mail stating that I owe $241.05. Island National Group is the company trying to collect the debt for RJM Aquisitions, Fingerhut. Statements read that I already pd them $100. Back in 97'. I was told when I called that I paid that $100. With a credit card and the remaining balance is still due. I asked what I bought but was never given a item. I was just told that the money was due and if it wasnt paid it would go on my credit. But if I paid within 30 days of my phone call, I could be rewarded with a valuable gift and they were willing to subtract 20% off the remaining balance. Wow, never heard of that before! Whats even more sad, is that I dont even own a credit card.
I still never paid and kept throwing away the statements. I had asked around to some people to see if they had experienced the same with this company. I was surprised by how many people have receieved this scam. My main concern is that I dont need this nonsense going to my credit. I am a single mother with one income and trying to obtain a good credit report. I don't want this company to get way with what they are doing. If anyone can give any advise, please write back.
