When I started this school for music production in 1998, it was supposed to be a two year program which they shortened to 1 year calling it an "Accelerated program" for music production. It all sounded nice and school was interesting, classes were easy and fun, but the result was pretty bad; the facilities were outdated and teachers did not always know how to teach as they are pulling teachers from thorn down studios for music recording that don't work anymore or were fired from facilities that worked well, few of them were even bragging in front of all of us with their drugs addiction. Teachers did not go thoroughly over everything that needed to be done in classes and then students as a result were slacking and leaving the class early.
Their internship coordinator Raldalee Wagner, 300 lbs woman who was supposed to give us advice on how to approach internships was never available after she handed out a copy of recording studios and record labels. After spending roughly $ 12 000 for 600 hours of vague education, I at least wanted to get help on the internship so I can spend another few months working at a studio for free and hopefully learn something, but with her list she gave us, we were only able to obtain internship in the worst studios in the city, as the good ones were not at the listed address anymore or did not accept interns from IAR (I wonder why).
I once got in touch with her (Internship coordinator) asking her to help me out, she said she would call me back shortly which she never did and then when I called again, I wasn't able to get in touch with her.
I spoke with friends who went to the school in recent years, and the all told me similar stories that start with school being out of date. They all also say that school relies on young urban kids who have no previous education beyond high school, but even if no high school, they say, no problem...
