I was told in that the field of Medical Assisting had no age barriers by the admissions people at Kaplan. Because I have been a caregiver most of my life in some capacity or another, I thought that this would be a good field to get into that could take me to my retirement days. I was wrong.
I worked as a Medical Assistant for about 3 months and the clinic and I had a difference of values and I left on mutual terms. That was a year ago and now I get the feeling that I am not getting called for interviews because of the length of time I have been out of work and also for the fact that I went to Kaplan.
I even went so far as to call admissions before I started classes and told them I had changed my mind and that I had decided not to attend. Of course that is when I got the "canned" response about the age question. I wish now that I had listened to the little voice in my head because now I wouldn't have $30,000 in loans to repay and a worthless degree that I probably won't be able to use.
I did write a letter to the President of Kaplan and he couldn't be bothered to answer me but had the career services director locally do it for him. She didn't even have a copy of the letter so she didn't know what I had written to him.
I will not recommend Kaplan to anyone because they are a rip-off. I will be filing a complaint to whoever I need to contact about this. I know that the Department of Education where my loans are, won't cancel them based on this.
