ACT College instructors tweak test scores for students who have enrolled on the federal Welfare to Work program so failing students can remain in school; they can continue to collect funds from the students federal loans if they pass each subject.
The federal government requires a student attend school 80% of the time required for each subject. If their attendance falls below the 80% they lose their funding. ACT submits bogus attendance records to make sure the student receives their funds so ACT get theirs.
For those of us who pay our own tuition we don't get those breaks. If we fall below the 80% we fail the subject and have to repeat it at an additional cost. If our grades fall below 70% the same thing happens;we have to repeat the subject. Not so for students getting federal funds; their grades are falsified so that they pass.
Students are required to sign a no cheating policy when they enroll at ACT; violations should result in immediate dismissal. Student on federal assistance are allowed and even encouraged to cheat by instructors so they can pass. Watching this happen has made me realize what a rip off this college is to those of us who want to learn and pay out of our own pockets. I am ashamed to put ACT on my resume because the college is starting to get a really bad reputation.
They heavily recruit students who are eligible for these funds; knowing this is sure money for the college it is a win win for them.
