I attended the distance learning program while I was in the Navy but I did not feel I was getting what I wanted to I withdrew from the courses. CIE requires you do give writen notice to withdraw which I did on April 4.
Five months went by then I got a past due notice from CIE saying that I owed them $2177.41 but when I first enrolled my total tution came to $2193.00. The last bill I got while enrolled showed that I only owed $1386.75 if i where to continue on to finish the coures but I withdrew at that time.
The contract I signed at the start of the coures said that if i were to complete 60% of the material I would be responsible for the full tution. I only completed 30% of the course work and when I withdrew I was current with my tution.
I called them about the bill and they told me that it was a computer mistake and told me it would be taken care off. Well 6 months later I got a collection notice and account collection report on my credit report. I again called CIE and the collection company to get this resolved. CIE again said it was a mixup and the collection was removed from my credit report.
3 months later the collection is back on my report with a different date. When I contact the collection company they tell me they can't do nothing all they want is the money. CIE is now telling me that I owe them the money but they don't show any record of my previous conversations with them, even though I have the first name of the persons I talked to before.
It was my fault that I didn't get written notice from them when they fixed the problem before but I do not owe them any money. I just wanted to let everyone know about CIE ways especially because they prey on our service men and women. I found out that a couple of my friends in the military was cheated by CIE, so I thought that maybe if I did this report that would prevent them from cheatings some people. I also made sure that the ships that were in my homeport also knew about them.
