On April 20, a charge appeared on my banking statement in the amount of $79.95 from CIC Credit Monitoring. I did not recognize this company, and certainly did not order any kind of credit monitoring service. I was certain that this was a fraudulent charge.
On April 21 I called the 800 number listed for the company, and explained the situation. At that time, I was asked for my social security number or credit card number. I did not give out either, as this is not wise to do, nor do reputable companies ask for this information over the phone.
I was then told that they could not help me without that information. I looked to see if they were any consumer complaints about this company, and much to my dismay, I found several. I'm in the process of trying to get a refund from my bank, but I have no guarantees at this time. I think this company ought to be shut down, and exposed to the media in the form of shows like 60 Minutes, Dateline, or 20/20.
I am outraged that this company is getting away with fraudulently charging hundreds of people. I will post an update on this matter as soon as possible.
