I found a charge of 79.95 on my Visa bill from a company called CIC* Credit Monitoring. I did not recognize the company. When I called to have the charge removed they wanted my social security number and my mother's maiden name.
I got mad and told them this information would simply make it easier for them to add further fraudulent charges to my account. They backed off and agreed to remove the charge.
Three days later, when I checked with Visa, CIC had credited my account with $72.84, thus leaving a charge of $7.11 against my account. I called again, and again was asked for personal information "for security purposes" that I was not willing to give. I asked to talk to a supervisor. He asked if I had accessed any reports and I assured him I had not done anything in connection with his company. He finally promised the final charge of $7.11 would also be credited back to my Visa account.
