I am an aspiring poet who was recently published via International Library of Poetry. I was excited but sceptical. Thank goodness I wrote my professor (I am a recent graduate of University of Maryland Baltimore County's Instructional Design Program) and he gave me ripoff's URL to check out.
Low and behold tons of e-mail regarding International Library of Poetry (AKA poetry.com). As a rule of thumb, previous poetry instructors and magazines tell new poets that if you have to pay for it it's not real. I should have learned. I didn't lose any money but signed my name for them to publish my poetry a total of 3 pieces near and dear to my heart.in addition, I have about seven pieces on their Web site that I am now trying to get removed. My greatest fear is that they can claim these as their own.
