Edwards Cinemas
Ripoff

Edwards Cinemas is a complete rip-off in all respects. The extreme high prices, the monopoly on new-released movies, the quality of service, and the quality of the theatre.

The rates to see a movie at movie at Edwards are outrageous. A family of four (two adults and two children) ranges anywhere from $29-50.

When i go see a movie at edwards i cringe when paying. I am paying eight dollars and twenty five cents to see a movie. They say that the quality of the theatre is better and that is why we pay so much when in fact no one cares anymore about the fact that the theatre is decorated in chinese or something. The decorations consist of a big banner that says "Chinese" and when you walk in there are some light fixtures and small decorations on the walls. To tell you the truth i don't even notice the walls and who cares if their theatre is decorated it has noe effect on the quality of the movie i am seeing. Secondly, edwards claims to have comfortable seats. Yes the arm lifts up but so do other Boise theatres and i can go and see a movie at those for a lot cheaper. Also the arm rests aren't padded which is bullcrap because for eight dollars we better have top notch quality in our seats. I know af atleast three Boise theatres that have padded arm rests and they aren't trying to rip us off. Also the space between each person is very small. I have actually had to move down and have two seats to myself just to be comfortable and not have the person's arm next bumping into me (note that i am 5'4" and weigh 120 lbs. And i am slender so it is not because i am overweight). But consider those who are overweight. I can say for a fact that there is no way they could comfortable in the seats.
Another thing that really bothers me is that a movie that costs eight dollars to see should not be sold out. If edwards wants us pay eight dollars to see a movie then they better have enough seats to fit all of Boise. There is another good point. I cannot see a new release movie anywhere in Boise except for Edwards. So i am forced to pay eight dollars or wait atleast two to three weeks to see it elsewhere. Then i go to pay eight dollars and they are sold out. Why aren't other theatres given the opportunity hold new release movies? Is it because Edwards knows that if another theatre that is cheaper has the same new release then they are going to lose business? I am guessing that edwards pays a share of the very expensive prices that we pay for new releases to the other company's to prevent them from taking business away from them.
Another thing is the prices for the snacks and lengths of lines. The guy that rebutteled before me says that maybe they were under staffed. Well for goodness sakes, i just paid you eight bucks to see a movie and i am about to pay you fifteen more just for a bag of popcorn and a drink and you are telling me that your theatre is under staffed? And how much do the poeple in these theatres make an hour anyway? For all of the money that the public is giving the employees should be decently paid and there should absolutely never be a time when the theatre is "understaffed". The prices for food are just disgusting. $3.75 for a 16oz. (small) drink and $4.75 for a small popcorn. And then a little packet of candy that costs 89 cents at the gas station costs $2.50 at the theatre. And a water (16oz.) is $3 as well. How ridiculous.
Why is that all of the other theatres can charge one-three dollars to see a movie and even offer cheaper snacks and can still pay for all of their expenses as a business?
The simple fact is that when i go to edwards i am not fully satisfied and do not feel i got my eight dollars worth. Edwards should be guaranteeing full satisfaction to all poeple for the prices they are making us pay.
Edwards says that if we didn't charge high prices then there wouldn't be a theatre. Well i personally don't want taht theatre. Not having that theatre would be a good thing. Other theatres in boise have the new releases for cheaper and there would more locations where the new releases could be seen for those who do not live close there. There could also be a new one built there that is so high in maintenance and would cost atleast two dollars cheaper. We don't need the decorated theatres we need cheaper prices, better quality of the seats and arm rests and more space to prevent movies from being sold out. I think a boycott should really be started because only the poeple can make a difference and only the poeple are suffering for edward's business mistakes. If anyone is interested in helping me in this cause contact me at (208) 888-3040 and leave a message and phone number. Just remember that only the poeple and the poeple together can make a difference.
