Argosy University
Lied about financial aid and accredited classes

I enrolled with Argosy University in 2009. I began my classes, and within the first class I became weary of the school. The classes seemed very elementary and redundant. I called my academic advisor and asked him if the class I was in would count towards my credits for my degree (this was not my first time going to college, but my first time online) he assured meit would. (One of my concerns was being able to transfer my credits to a ground schoolin the future.) I completed the first class, and then ran into some medical problems that required me to have surgery.

I was not sure how much recovery time I would need or how I would be affected by the medication I was on. Within the first few days of my second classI expressed these concerns to my academic advisor, and he informed me that as long as I re-enrolled the following semester that it would NOT cause any financial problems for me with my grant, financial aid, or the school. Having that information I decided to withdraw from that class and re-enroll the following semester in January.

Upon returning to the online school in JanuaryI was notified that I owed the school over $2,000.00. When I inquired about this debt I was told it wasbecause I withdrew from the previous class. I explained to the financial aid office the conversation I had with my academic advisor and they said that what he told me was not true. Although I withdrew from the class within the first few days of it beginning, they were still going to charge me for the class. I disputed this debt with them throughout mysecond class in January.

Towards the end of my class I was fed up with thelies and circles we were going in over this issue, so I decided to check out other schools. While speaking with other schools, most of them ground schools, I was informed that the credits I had through Argosy were not transeferrable to any other accredited school, that they were only classes required by Argosy! I went to my academic advisor with this information and he confirmed it for me. Hearing this, I was furious, I specifically asked him about the classes previously and he told me the exactopposite!

Needless to say, Iwithdrew from the school for good. I now have over $7,000 in debt, not including money paid from a grant, for classes that do not count towards any type of degree! I don't understand how what they are doing can be legal in any way, shape, or form. I am a single mother of 3 kids who was trying to bettermy life for me and my children, and I feel like I was totally mislead, lied toand taken advantage of.
