I realize that I cannot get any money back, but I a filing this report to describe the rather deceptive practice that this organization is practicing. I offer my experience as an example.
I was a candidate during the 2003 school year for National Board Cerification. I taped classes, and authored descriptions of my classroom activities and the results of my students' work. Unfortunately I did not obtain National Board certification. I found out about this in November. When I received notice I was also offered the chance to retake certain entrie and "bank" other scores. At first I was going to do what was suggested until I found out it would cost me $1800. I was shocked at the price. What these peopl do is make the candidate feel bad about not making the standards and then charge them an "arm and a leg" to go through the certification process again. Many teachers do go through the certification.
I still question the process. I was informed about the scores on each section of the submitted documents, but was not given any specifics about them. I have no idea what I did wrong. I would have like to seen a detailed report of the scoring process (since I paid $2300) originally.
I think these National Board Certification processes are just another ripoff and the NBPTS is just targeting an audience that is eager to prove its professional status. I submit my report in a hope that other teachers will think about the whole process and think twice before they invest time and money into the process.
