Well I would like to start that my experience at Kaplan asbeen a total nightmare. I went to acommunity college for one degree and back to start another before moving with theArmy. I started at Kaplan due to theconstant moves and am determined to continue and finish my education. I have not had many problems with myinstructors a couple I have really enjoyed. However, the Financial Aid department is horrendous, unprofessional, unorganized, and rip offs. When I got to come outhere with my husband I started in September of 09 and documents were requestedthat I knew were not needed. I got thosetaken care of then and now in March a lady keeps going behind everything thatgets fixed and finds something else to reject. I have done my research and talked to the appropriate individuals about thematter and found out some interesting information. First of all I found out from Fafsa and theIRS that my husbands taxes were not needed or required due to the uniquesituation. Fixing that she goes behind and rejects mine. Not recommending on how I should amend but requiringme to do so and two options on which way. I called Financial Aid and spoke with a supervisor quite sketchy on howhe acted. After explaining to him thesituation he beeps in from a restricted number, obviously so he is not recordedthrough their line. Stating that I couldprint off the form from the IRS website fill it out fax it to them and thenjust rip it up but stated that this is unconfirmed information he was givingme. After speaking with the IRS not onlyis this advice illegal but it is also illegal because they cannot tell an individualto amend and how to file. My taxpreparer had already advised me of this. When I called prior to all of this when first receiving her last e-mailI asked to speak with the manager and when asked who my adviser was I told themthat this e-mail did not come from my actual adviser and gave them hername. When they transferred me I was onhold for a few minutes and ended up on a man who answered hello, I explainedto him about the transfer and he was confused on why they transferred me to hiscell phone! So seeing how it is handledI e-mailed her stating to her with the above along with how they are saying Iowe money. I was approved for a PellGrant as well as a MyCAA. Between thetwo of these they got more back for the first two set of classes I took thanneeded. They enrolled me in the last twoIm in now without informing me that there are no more funds. However, although there are no more fundswhen the invoice is looked over and totaling the money they received comparedto saying what they are charging there is actually NOTHING I owe. Also the current two Im in now they didnteven subtract the military discount and when I called the department told methat it would not show up until the end of the term. When I looked up my document tracking overwhats suppose to be everything I sent in everything shows approved or nolonger needed however, she keeps trying to reject the two. I have had to send in my taxes numerous timesalthough it only shows on there once. Ihave had to submit in others in several times because they obviously do notkeep up with anything. I included thisin the e-mail as well and explained that if the matter did not get handled or Iwas put in debt when they obviously received their money that I would get alawyer, talk to the BBB, and the media she responded back. She then told me that she talked to theverification department and they requested that I get a form from my taxpreparer stating that it was ok that I filed the way I did on their letter headand submit it to them. Even funnier Icontacted the lady who is also the manager there and requested this. Upon my request she said it is illegal forher to do that because of privacy and confidentially. She cannot by law discuss how an individualfiled and also could not figure out their deal with the matter. She explained that she deals with FAFSA allthe time and has never heard of what the schools keeps trying to do and thatthey are not the IRS and should not the legal aspects. I have researched this in many aspects andupon so believe what they are trying to do is lie about not receiving the grantso they can charge the student and double dip. If I do not hear back from her on this matter, it does not get resolved, I get put in debt or have any issues when I go to withdrawal from the two Imin which will be another couple of weeks I will do just what I stated, talk tomy lawyer, the BBB, and the media. Alsowatch out they try and add more credits to get more money. They have their classes as 5-6 credit hourswhen all other schools I looked out now are only 3-4 so be careful you couldspend almost $60,000 with them when you could go and get the same for$30,000. I am not one to be walked overand conned. If there are any others thatknow it is not their fault and actually Kaplans let me know we can do a classact lawsuit.
