As a Walled Lake School Bus Driver, I take serious offense to the form of intimidation that has occurred within the Walled Lake School Bus Drivers' Union. For those of you that don't know, the subject of privatization of the School Busing has been a hot subject in Walled Lake.
Currently, Walled Lake Schools has reopened their contract for the prospect of privatization. Should this occur, I will be out of a job. I hope and pray that this is turned down. I need my job.
However, I take serious offense to other bus drivers making derogatory comments about whether or not I am going to pass out flyers, or stand in a picket line, or show up for a rally. Some of these bus drivers have even gone so far as to threaten to write down our LICENSE PLATE numbers or get into our faces. I just think it completely disvalues the good that they are trying to achieve in the first place.
For those of you that think that intimidation is an appropriate remedy, you might want to realize that if one of us can't attend an event, perhaps we have an prior obligation to our families or maybe even an ill loved one. So get off your high horses and take what time and effort that each of us can afford to give.
I have nothing but the best things to say about Walled Lake School Bus Drivers. But please leave the barbaric and threatening attitudes at home. Remember, you represent an organization that is supposed to be in care of children so act like it.
