I took a class at this place they call Dunlap-Stone University - International Import Export Institute three months ago. I paid $900 for my basic importing and exporting class that lasted six weeks. The instructor showed up once a week and slapped some one line comments in the classroom.in my second week, I complained and received no response from the school. The third week of class, I called twice as I got no feedback on homework or class material from the instructor. I was informed that they will contact the instructor. The situation did not change. So, I rightfully asked for a refund. They told me once you pay, you are done, whether or not the instructor teaches online in the virtual classroom. The receptionist Cathy, told me to speak to Tyra Andrews, who is the daughter of the CEO of this school. I got no where with her. So, their ONE student advisor asks me to speak to Caulyne Barron, the other daughter of the CEO and she basically told me the same thing - no refund even if you learn nothing in class.
I wrote to the persident, Don Burton and I never got a response from him.
So, I dug deeper. This is a family business - the Burton family. Valeri Burton the wife, is the bursar, Caulyne Barron (married name) is the oldest daughter, Tyra Andrews is the second married daughter and TJ Andrews is the son in law. Please do not get misguided by their website listing different family members in administrative positions. This is all one family, only interested in making a quick buck at any cost.
Last week, I was at a US Trade Compliance seminar in Dallas and I met John Priecko, who used to actually teach for them before. He told me never to take another class again there, as he left due to severe fraud at this school. I believe him. He also told me that the President of this school is good friends with the executive director of their accreditation council, DETC and they get accredited no matter what. So, I checked and yes, it is true. I see Don Burton on a committee at DETC. So, if I complained with the accreditation board, I wonder how far the complaint will go?
It is a shame that Dunlap Stone University only cares about money and NOT about students. How far will this family go to make a quick buck?
