This is my THIRD complaint on the SAME slumlord, Rebecca C. Joyer, who has refused to properly address a pest control problem (nightmare!) in my apartment for the past few weeks. We have rats inside our apartment, due to a grapefruit tree just outside our door attracting fruit rats. I overheard her being informed by a pest control specialist 2 weeks ago, how he could treat the problem, the tree, in order to greatly reduce the number of rats yet she refuses to spend the money to resolve this problem because of a personal conflict she has with me! Stated simply, she does not like me because i refuse to brown nose.
On June 22, Mrs. Joyer sent her maintenance man, the same one she had drill and nail my window shut from the outside (!!!) some time ago, to my apartment. After explaining to him my SIXTEEN YEAR OLD DAUGHTER had managed to CATCH (!!!) one rat the night before with her bare hands (Apparently, the rat was already dying after ingesting poison left under the stove) and threw the rat outside! Several hours later, my daughter spotted ANOTHER larger rat actually siiting out in the open in our living room so she began what became one very long and devastating chase of this rat! Finally, she managed to shew it out the door with a broom bt did not ask for assistance from either the slumlord OR maintenance man after we were threatened to be charged a fee we cannot afford should we disturb them late at night again to help with the rats!
The maintenance man came over yesterday and, because of the slumlords orders, refused to leave more poison packets in hidden places, which obviously had helped somewhat by bringing the 2 rats out in the open seemingly searching for water as they were dying of dehydration.instead, he actually set the most vicious looking black, metal trap with chhese in the middle tray containing sharklike looking sharp metal teeth which was sat out in the open where my 14 month old son could easily have grabbed it next to our oven and fridge!!!
A worker from Healthy Families came immediately to witness and disengage the dangerous trap, remarking it certainly would have thoroughly cut off my entire babys hand (it was big!) or someones toes had we acidentally run into it which wouldnt be hard as it sat out in the open!!!
I am thinking of contacting CODES ENFORCEMENT tommorrow to see if anything can be done so we dont have to live with rodents. I plan to move ASAP but am on such a low income and drained of ANY money to move with because of being tricked and forced into paying the neighbors power bill, as the thermostat is only in my unit that controls the AC/HEAT for his unit as well.
I STILL cannot find an attorney who is willing to help repreent me in court against this horrible landlord in order to get out of my lease and be refunded AT LEAST my $500 deposit so I can MOVE!!! Arent there ANY attorneys out there who will help probono anymore???
Where is the justice here? This is simpl RIDICULOUS and highly unjust as well as unethical!
