I received a letter on March 15th from these people, sayig that they had bought some account from Fourscore. Current balance at that time was over $1500. I contacted Emelie Schon at x1216 and found out from her that this supposed "debt" dated back to 1984 (I don't remember having any credit card called First Card back then! Hell, I was 18!). I immediately let her know I was disputing it (oh but they were willing to settle for $500.00) and mailed a letter requesting all documentation.
Instead I got another letter and phone call - they didn't get a letter and were willing to settle for $300. I informed her that I would resend the letter along with a MORE detailed request. Certified mail, return receipt. Not ONLY did they not send the documentation required by law, they also did not provide proof that they were licensed in my state!
I got a notarized "Affidavit and Assignment" letter from some guy named Jeff C. Garrington (Compliance Manager) which only states that they got the account from Foursquare. No proof whatsoever of this alleged debt. But they are still willing to settle for about $300! And it is a "generous offer", according to them. Plus the current balance dropped to just over $1200.
I had promised them in my last letter that if they contacted me again without providing to me the required documentation, I would report them to the AG's of both states, the BBB's and the FTC. I have already begun filing complaints.
I hope dear Emelie calls me Monday. I would love to know who that attorney is that is planning a lawsuit against these people. After reading the problems with everyone here, I am MORE than willing to join in.
