On Feb. 19th I was contacted by a representative of SAT/ACT Prep Center from Coppell Texas. I was told that my daughter, who is a high school student, had requested SAT test preparation materials from that company through the school. The person I spoke to knew that my daughter had taken PSAT last fall and that she didn't sign up for the march SAT.
At the time I received the call, my daughter wasn't home and I had no way of verifying her ordering the materials. The company representative told me that the materials cost $109.99 and my daughter had full month to review them and if we returned them within that month, we would not be charged for the cost of the materials. I agreed to the shipment and provided a credit card number to cover the cost if we decided to keep the materials. I was told they would be shipped immediately and I would reveive them within a week. When my daughter returned home, I asked her about her requesting SAT preparation materials and she told me she never did request them.
After not receiving a shipment by March 2nd I checked my credit card account and found out that SAT/ACT Prep Center had made a charge to my account on Feb. 19th. Since I had not received any materials, I became suspicious. I researched them through the internet and found out that this seems to be their business practice. They find out information about children taking SAT tests and call their parents claiming that the children requested test preparation materials. However sometimes they don't bother shipping them at all.
I called the company on March 2nd and asked about the shipment. I was assured the materials were shipped. When I demanded the tracking number, so I could find out where the package was, they admitted that they never shipped anything. I cancelled the order and requested a credit to my account. I was promised I would get fill refund. I checked with my credit company on March 10th... No credit. I called SAT/ACT Prep Cente again on March 11th. They claimed the materials were shipped but still couldn't provide any proof of that. They took my phone number and promised to call with shipping info.
After not hearing from them, I called again on March 13th. I asked for the name of the person I spoke to. She gave first name (Jamie) but wouldn't give me her last name. I asked to speak to the manager. The manager (who sounded just like the "Jamie" person I spoke to earlier) gave me her full name (I wonder it it was her real name) and listened to my story. She claimed I never requested a refund or cancelled the shipment!!! I demanded an immediate credit to my account. Guess what? I'm still waiting for it and I'm not holding my breath!
I don't care if their computer records show that they shipped the materials. I have never received anything from them and they can not provide me with proof that they shipped them. How is it possible that they can take my money and run? At this point I will never do business with them and if they try to ship anything, it's going back to them unopened. And why did they call me in the first place?! My daughter never requested anything directly from them and we are on do-not-call list!
At this point I will be disputing the charges with my credit company, I will file a complaint with my state's Attorney General and I'm sure my local TV station's Consumer Watchdog will love to do a report on them!
